Who has a greater risk of getting the Flu?

Members in the following high-risk categories are advised to get their flu shot as an important safeguard against this preventable illness and possible hospitalisation:

Adults 65 years and older
+
Children younger than 5 years
+
Pregnant women and women up to two (2) weeks after the end of pregnancy
+
Healthcare workers
+
People who have weak immune systems (e.g. immunosuppression caused by certain medications or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV/AIDS).

People with long-term illnesses, such as:

Any chronic disease,

Disorders or diseases of the lungs (e.g. asthma),
✓
Heart conditions (e.g. congestive heart failure and congenital heart disease),

Kidney disease (e.g. chronic renal failure),

Liver disease (e.g. poor liver function or liver failure),

Nervous system disorders (e.g. epilepsy),

Blood or bleeding disorders (e.g. leukaemia and Haemophilia)
